I recently finished listening to NPR's All Songs Considered Podcast episode on Songs That Make You Cry. Now, although I often cry from movies, TV shows and even commercials - especially if babies are born, gets me every time - I very rarely cry from music. I got pretty close during the Podcast but it was often the stories rather than the songs that got me. I actually only have two examples of songs that have inspired me to cry. The first one I actually disqualify because it is by association rather than the song itself. The song is "The Hurricane" by Bob Dylan, which I think only got me because of the movie of the same name (the preview was enough with that one, you know, the kid sits down and tries to write "Dear Mr. Carter"). The one song that genuinely got me to cry (once) was "Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls. I was listening sort of absently while sitting on my computer ("working on my thesis" I think) shortly after meeting Lori and I just burst into tears. It obviously wasn't sadness but it completely overtook me.
