Being ready

It has happened again. I have re-bought an album that I wasn't ready for the first time out. I have re-bought only a handful of albums over the years. Once because I had sort of regretted getting rid of it and my memory of it had raised its esteem in my eyes. Plus I found it for $2 at a Value Village. That one, it turns out, was just not that great (the Judybats' first album, if you're wondering). The next example is the Brian Eno/David Byrne album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, which I bought as my first Eno album when I was just not familiar enough with him and the technological limitations of a sample based 1982 album. I later picked up the re-issue and finally "got it." Now, in response to reading Generation Ecstasy I picked up the two Aphex Twin albums I Care Because You Do and Richard D James Album that i had gotten rid of years ago because they were to harsh, noisy and tuneless. But re-listening now, I find them both warm, melodious and inviting - maybe my ears have grown accustomed, maybe I'm more able to appreciate given my greater familiarity with electronic based music. Whatever the reason, I'm liking it, now that I'm ready.
